Suunto Vector Watch

I originally went and reviewed this after just a few days of use. My review was positively ‘glowing’ with praise. Bad mistake. A few days just isn’t long enough to get to know gear. Duh! After nearly two years, I’ll try and give a more accurate review.

Suunto Vector Watch

Best bits

  • Nice to have an altimeter on wrist rather than carry GPS (see later)
  • Quite robust, worn when climbing and got rather knocked about but still going strong
  • Compass is useful and accurate
  • Looks good!

Worst bits

  • Setting the altimeter is a hassle and it was never as accurate as my GPS unless weather is very stable
  • Stop watch is fiddly to use and has to be reselected if you stop it for what seems like more than 30s! Big hassle when using it to time a run.
  • Button combos difficult. I still need the manual. Too easy to activate alarms and logbook by accident.

Conclusion

Not worth the money (£150) for me. I usually carry a GPS anyway. In fact, I’ve got a wrist mounted Garmin Foretrex. The stopwatch issue is a big pain. I’m also forever getting the button combos wrong.

Spring goals

After reading @garyufm’s blog I’ve been inspired to set some spring goals for myself. Fair enough, I did copy two of his ;) I’ve got until the end of May to complete them.

  1. 252km (48hr) Bicycle/MTB Bivvy challenge

The official version finished in march and I missed it :/ I’m still working on a route but it’ll be in the Lake District.Whinlatter

  2. Lake District East-West backpacking (3 days)

Attempted this last year with a group but we failed. Solo this time so
only myself to blame if another fail!Great Moss

  3. 50 pull ups challenge

What it says on tin! Currently at 24 so should be, ahem, easy! I did notice @highsteph doing 100 via @teampup :)

  4. 100 push ups challenge

Never much of a fan but what the hell!

I’ll keep everyone posted how I get on, so you can berate me if I fail :( Keep tuned for route stuff when I map it.

Daily training log is at dailymile.
